Still with original printed label. This is an unusually emotive title from Bingley! The size inside the mount is 550mm
x 270mm.

|
"Breakers and Spray at Droskyn Point, Perranporth, Cornwall"
This is one of his very best and one of the largest that we have seen. It has incredible detail in the rock formations
and more detail than usual in the seagulls. It also shows the building where the transatlantic telephone connection used to
enter the UK. The title is given on a framers label as opposed to the original. It measures 545mm x 400mm inside the mount.

|
"Incoming Tide" Perranporth, Cornwall - 1945
As you can see, a popular title and a popular scene. Bingley titled many of his paintings thus and as he had his studio
in Perranporth it is not surprising that many of his paintings are a variation on this theme. This one has its original label
and measures 250mm x 125mm inside the mount.
|
|

|
"The Arch and Chapel Rock" Perranporth, Cornwall - 1945
This is paired with the picture above and measures the same (250mm x 125mm). It too has its original label.

|

|
"The Return of the Boats, Mounts Bay"
Measuring 130mmx185mm this painting still has its original label. However, it does not indicate the year that it
was painted. It is generally considered to be quite early though it has the uppercase signature (his earliest works had a
script signature).

|
"A Rough Sea" The Headland, Newquay, Cornwall
This scene shows the Huers hut where a lookout man watched for pilchard shoals and notified the local fishermen by "huing"
from the headland. This has excellent detail again with the gulls. 500mm x 250mm inside the mount.

"An Autumn Day - A Fisherman's Cottage on the River Dart 1948"
This lake scene shows an unusual portrayal of a figure in a fishing boat. Bingley very rarely painted figures and this
shows in his composition. The River Dart is located in Devon, England. (245mmx173mm)

|
This is a picture of boats leaving Scarborough Harbour. It is an early painting, denoted by the signature (script) -
most likely pre 1937. The painting measures 380mmx220mm inside the mount.

Although this has no label, Mevagissey is handwritten in script on the back of the painting itself.
Mevagissey is an attractive old town which was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and which still boasts
a working harbour, with a few dozen small fishing boats. It has a tradition of boat building dating back to 1745. Many of
the old buildings, constructed of cob and slate, bear testimony to a time when the large shoals of pilchards were the livelihood
of the whole village.

'"A Sea Symphony" Sunset on the Cornish Coast' Original Oil Painting by H H Bingley RMS SM - 1962
This picture was purchased in Guernsey 1962/63.
Painted on board, measuring 420mm by750mm inside the frame.
As with "The Atlantic Breakers" also from 1962 on the back is a similar disclaimer
on reproduction.
It shows different moods as the light changes.
Many thanks to BB for sending us these pictures for use on the site.

"An Old Sussex Mill" Original Watercolour by H H Bingley ABWS
A lovely little painting measuring 155mmx95mm. I am aware of the existence of another painting of exactly the same
scene. You can find this in the Where Are You Now section of the website. They are very similar, even down to the birds to
the right of the mill blades but there are subtle differences between the two. The cottages are different, there is less sky
in this one and the stream in the bottom left hand corner is more obvious.

An unusual early painting by Bingley. This one has the early signature but no date. This is the first I have come across
that was painted in the Isle of Man but I would think there are others in existence. It measures 220mmx170mm. Has
been beautifully restored (it was originally on the site in much dirtier condition). Thanks very much to MH for the image
and information and also for being so interested and helpful to the project!

"Fisherman's Cottage Garden of the Sea"
Cadgwith, Cornwall Original Drawing. RBA Art Club
This is a lovely painting of a cottage garden with Bingley's
trademark sea scene in the background. To quote the owner, "The
colours, composition and subject are so evocative of an era gone by...I love its nostalgic quality." It
measures 220mmx135mm. Many thanks to NF for sending us the information.

Sheep Grazing on a Chalk Cliff (possibly aka
"The Path to the Sea, Swanage Bay, Dorest).
We're not sure of the real name of this painting, there
is another painting (on page 4) with the aka title). It is possible that there is an original label concealed within
the current frame. However, it is a lovely example of his detailed work of landscape and you can see some colourful plants
and little sheep grazing amongst it. There is a chalk cliff far in the background which, along with the other painting's
title, makes us think it is perhaps Dorset. (360mm x 270mm)

"In fair Autumn weather when the trees are

A lovely painting of the Downlands with a verse written

"Seagulls at Dawn"
This painting
differs from the majority of Bingley's work because of the colours used. Tonally it has pinks, lilacs and blues whereas
most other of his coastal works are blues, ambers and yellows. The painting measures 292mmx191mm. Thanks to SG for sending
us this picture.

"A Dartmoor Stream" (in flood), Dartmoor,
Devon
A very moody painting of the moor with rich purples and greys. You're left in no doubt that the river
is in spate and that there is probably another storm on the horizon. Many thanks to J&JW.
